How I Run a Company at 15 with a Team of AI Employees
Thomas Guthrie

I'm 15, in New Zealand, and AI employees do the research, reporting, and inbox work at my company. Here is the exact roster, the guardrails, and what it costs.
I am 15, I live in New Zealand, and I am the CEO of Verse, the AI employees company. We are a tiny human team, and the reason that works while school carries on is that I hired my own product. AI employees do the research, the reporting, and a growing share of the daily work. Humans do the deciding. This post is the exact setup: the roster, the guardrails, what it costs, what I refuse to delegate, and what I would tell anyone trying to run a lean business with AI employees in 2026.
Running lean stopped being a compromise
Microsoft's 2026 Work Trend Index describes companies rebuilding themselves around AI agents, with managers becoming managers of agents. Korn Ferry reports that over half of talent acquisition leaders plan to put autonomous agents into their teams this year. The enterprise angle is not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the same leverage now costs $29 a month and fits inside a solo operator's budget. The gap between a person with employees and a person without them used to be capital. Now it is mostly a decision.
My actual roster
These are real employees on my real account, doing work I can trace, and everything below has receipts in my activity feed.
- Atlas, research analyst: before I email an agency owner, Atlas has crawled their site and handed me what they sell plus one specific, true detail. I still write the first line of every email myself, but I no longer start from a blank page
- The morning brief: at 8am the overnight rundown is waiting for me. What ran, what it produced with links to the proof, and anything parked for my approval. I read it before school
- Scout: during a 12 hour live test this week, Scout planned its own day at 2am and then executed it to the minute. I checked the timestamps twice. Nobody prompted it
- Their own inboxes: my employees answer email at their own addresses and keep threads threaded. I get looped in when a decision actually needs me
Autonomy without receipts would be a horror movie, so all of this runs inside guardrails. Every action lands in an activity feed. Sensitive actions pause and ask me first. Spending is bounded by the account's balance, not by hope. The goal is leverage you can audit, and that framing is the whole product philosophy.
What I refuse to delegate
- Anything with my name on it: if a sentence goes out signed Thomas, I typed it. This post included
- Money decisions: employees prepare them. They do not make them
- Product judgment: deciding what Verse should be is the actual job
- Talking to customers: early customers get the founder. That is a choice, not a limitation
Running lean is not zero work. It is your hours migrating up the stack, from doing everything to directing everything, and doing only what genuinely needs you.
What this costs
On a customer account, a roster like mine sits in Professional territory: $79 a month for three always on employees and 2,500 usage credits, where a credit is one cent of real AI cost with no markup and the meter never hides. A single employee setup is Solo at $29. For contrast, one part time human hire for any single one of these jobs starts around $2,000 a month, and I say that with full respect for the humans. The economics are simply different now, and they are different in favor of small operators for the first time.
How I would start today
- Pick the job you resent most: mine was pre email research. Yours might be reporting, invoice chasing, or inbox triage
- Hire for that one job: describe it in a sentence, then sit the ten minute interview. The employee starts working before you have assigned it anything
- Review everything for a week: correct freely. Corrections stick, and the work sharpens fast
- Only then add the second hire: one employee running quietly well beats three half briefed ones
Start where I started
If you are a freelancer, consultant, or creator, the solo founders page shows what operators like you hand over first, and the quiz will spec your first hire from where your week actually goes. Building an employee is free, the hiring interview is free, and you watch the first working session before paying anything. Build your first employee free. It starts working before you pay anything.
