What a $29 AI SDR Replaces in a $4,000 SDR Month

Thomas Guthrie

What a $29 AI SDR replaces in a $4,000 SDR month

An entry level SDR costs $4,000 a month in salary, over $12,000 fully loaded. The itemized list of what an AI SDR does for $29, and what a human still owns.

An entry level SDR in the US costs about $4,000 a month in salary before benefits, tools, data, or management. Fully loaded, Alleyoop's 2026 report itemizes the true cost of a mid market SDR at $154,000 a year, which is over $12,000 a month. A $29 AI SDR does not replace that whole job, and anyone who says otherwise is selling fiction. What it replaces is the bulk of the month: the research, list building, drafting, follow-ups, and CRM hygiene that surround the actual human conversations. This post itemizes exactly which line items move.

What an SDR month actually costs

  • Base salary: entry level US reps start around $50,000 a year, which is $4,166 a month before anything else
  • Fully loaded: benefits, tools, data subscriptions, management time, and hiring cost push a mid market US SDR past $150,000 a year
  • Outsourced: offshore and agency SDRs run $2,500 to $4,000 a month, with real variance in quality
  • Ramp and tenure: two to three months to productivity, and industry data puts average SDR tenure around 18 months, so you pay the ramp again and again

So the $4,000 month in the title is the floor, not the average. Most teams pay far more per productive month than they think they do.

The itemized SDR week

Strip the job down and most of it is not selling.

  • List building: finding companies that fit and the right person to write to
  • Account research: reading websites, news, and job posts for a true reason to reach out
  • Writing: first touches and personalization, at volume, without sounding like a mail merge
  • Follow-ups: touches two through five, where most replies actually live
  • CRM hygiene: logging activity, moving stages, keeping the data honest
  • Scheduling: the back and forth required to land a meeting time

The genuinely human moments, discovery calls and real conversations, are a fraction of the week. The rest is process, and process is what software eats.

What Mark does for $29

Mark is the SDR you can hire on Verse. You describe your pipeline in a sentence. He interviews you like a real hire: who you sell to, what counts as qualified, your tone, what never to promise. Then he works through the list above with his own email address, his own browser, and a memory that keeps your corrections.

  • Researches every account: with a real browser on the company's real site, not a cached summary
  • Drafts personalized outreach: one email at a time, in your voice, grounded in what he actually found
  • Chases the follow-ups: on schedule, in thread, without being reminded
  • Keeps the CRM honest: fields updated as conversations move
  • Hands you the warm ones: when a reply needs judgment or a meeting needs closing, it lands with you

You review outreach before it goes out. That is the default, and I would not run it any other way. I use this motion myself: my research employee Atlas crawls every agency I plan to email and hands me what they sell plus one specific, true detail, and I still write the first line personally. Fully AI written outreach reads like spam, and reply rates show it. The split that works is exactly this one: the employee does the digging, the human owns the judgment.

What a human still owns

Discovery calls. Demos. Negotiation. The relationship. Mark makes one rep produce like three by removing everything around the conversations, but he does not make your closer unnecessary. If your bottleneck is closing, hire a closer. If your bottleneck is that not enough good conversations get started, that is exactly the problem he was built for.

The math, side by side

  • In house SDR: $4,000 to $12,000 or more a month fully loaded, months of ramp, and an 18 month clock until you do it all again
  • Outsourced SDR: $2,500 to $4,000 a month, quality varies wildly
  • Mark: $29 a month on Solo, 800 usage credits included, a credit is one cent of real AI cost, and he starts the day you hire him

If Mark helps start two extra qualified conversations a month, run that against your own close rate and deal size. The math does not need my help. The pricing is public if you want to check every number.

When not to hire an AI SDR

  • Phone first markets: if your buyers only answer cold calls, this is the wrong tool
  • Tiny ABM lists: fifteen named accounts deserve founder attention, not volume
  • Heavily regulated pitches: if legal reviews every sentence anyway, the leverage shrinks

Everyone else: the 60 second quiz will tell you whether Mark or a different first hire fits your pipeline. Building him is free, the interview is free, and you watch the first working session before paying anything. Build your first employee free. It starts working before you pay anything.
