Verse Desktop

The native app for Mac and Windows: everything from the web app, plus employees that can work on your actual computer.

Verse Desktop is the full product as a native app: faster to open, resilient offline, and signed in from the dock or taskbar. It also unlocks the one thing a browser tab never can: letting an employee work directly on your machine.

Installing

  1. 1

    Download it

Grab the Mac or Windows build from the Download page (you'll need to be signed in). Updates install themselves after that.

  2. 2

    Sign in once

Your session carries over, and the app registers this machine automatically. The sidebar shows a small “This Mac, connected” pill when it's available to your team.

Local computer access

By default, employees use their cloud computers even when you're in the desktop app. Local access is opt in, per employee: in Employee settings, turn on Let this employee work on my computer. From then on, that employee's files, terminal, and code tools run on your machine, on your real files and apps.

  • Risky commands ask first, with a native dialog, before anything runs.
  • Screen control on macOS additionally needs the system's Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions; files, terminal, and code work without them.
  • Flip the toggle off at any time and the employee goes back to its cloud computer.

When local beats cloud

  • Work on files that live on your machine, without uploading anything
  • Using software installed on your computer
  • Anything where you want to physically watch the work happen at your desk

Important

Give local access the way you'd hand over your laptop: to employees you've watched work, one at a time, with approvals on. The cloud computer is the right default for everything else.
